| Two of the nine papers in this volume introduce a finer-trains-coarser multiscale methodology as a procedure for parameterization and develop example models for carbon nanotubes, fullerene polyester clusters, and the unfolding behavior of alpha-helical protein domains. The other contributors apply coarse-graining to slow phase transitions, describe the use of ab initio and density functional theory to obtain parameters for larger scale models, and present an embedded fiber finite element method for nanocomposite modeling.
